What is “Laugh Shoalhaven” about?

Laughter is one of the most incredible aids to health,

from assisting people to relieve stress to aiding people with chronic pain to sleep more easily.

We also believe that laughter is a fantastic medium to communicate other messages around health issues.
“Laugh Shoalhaven” is aimed at addressing the issue of binge drinking from a positive perspective rather than the proposed fear campaigns that are becoming so common place in health messages. Over the course of a week through various activities from amateur stand up in pubs to laughter workshops we will provide many opportunities to laugh and learn a little about responsible alcohol use. Our activities cover the Shoalhaven with our main event to be held at St Georges Basin Country Club.

  • To encourage the community to seek laughter as an alternate form of stress relief.
  • To foster laughter as an encouragement to better health.
  • Build community connectedness through positive shared experience.
  • Convey a health based message around alcohol use and abuse.

'HABIB' (aka Tahir Bilgic Australias only stand-up Turkish comedian).

HABIB will appear as a guest professional comedian in the Great Debate.

Well known for his role as 'HABIB' on the cult SBS comedy 'FAT PIZZA'. 'Pizza Live on Stage', 'Lord of the Kebabs', 'The Fellowship of Hommus' and 'Habib on Parole'.

Tahir really has performed everywhere. He is a seasoned comedian and entertainer who is also able to use props, magic and music as well as being able to perform straight stand-up. He is passionate about showcasing comedians and getting a good laugh!

• 5 Laughter workshops.
• 5 Amateur stand up comedy contests.
• 5 Days of Radio Joke contests.
• 4,000 copies “Laugh Shoalhaven” magazine.
• Newspaper articles/competitions.
• Grand Finale of amateur stand up: Great Debate with guest professional comedians, awards and competitions from the previous week’s events.
